The High Plains of Kansas
Remember the first day back to school after summer vacation? What was your first assignment? That’s right… an essay titled, “What I Did on My Summer Vacation.”
“An Eclectic Vacation or Everything but the Kitchen Sink.”
Here are some of the highlights to date…
Rock Art at Buckhorn Wash, San Rafael Swell, Utah
Next… Manitou Springs, Colorado where they were digging out from a flash flood, that happened the night before, resulting in 3 missing persons.
Sad times … amazing community effort!
Next… creepy roadside attractions

Yes, I doctored this picture, but it really felt the way it looks.
Then on the more serious side of things… The Eisenhower Museum and Library in Abilene, Kansas
Sprinkled with a little magic from the land of Oz in Wamego, Kansas.
In preparation for this trip, I’ve been reading “Warrior’s Don’t Cry,” by Melba Patillo Beals, (which I HIGHLY recommend) because our next stop was Brown versus the Board of Educational in Topeka, Kansas
This is a National Park everyone should visit.
I will be writing a post later on this…
But, back to fun… we went to the historic Bryant’s BBQ on 18th and Vine and then to The American Jazz Museum. Brown v. The Board of Education and the Jazz Museum are my favorites.

Bryant’s Wall of Fame
I would have loved to have been in the Blue Room night club, when Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, and Louis Armstrong performed. I lingered in the empty club, daydreaming for a long time.
That’s all for now. I’m back on the road in the morning, heading for Mark Twain country.
Until next time, may you find your cup half full 🙂
